Mask, Korean Nation's Cultural Heritage
Pyongyang, March 20 (KCNA) -- Mask is one of the nation's cultural heritages created and developed by the Korean people.

Mask made with paper, wood, gourd and other things came into being in the course of hunting, fighting against enemies, labor life and community life.

People used it in representing their activities for reforming nature and society in an artistic way and, in the course, the mask dance appeared.

Such fact can be proven by historical relics, including mural paintings related to musk dance at the mausoleum of Kogukwon.

Mask was further diversified and developed in the period of the feudal Joson dynasty (1392-1910).

In the present times mask has been widely used in cheering of sports games and dances.

At the folk dance suite "Song of the Seasons" now going on at the Pyongyang Grand Theatre, a male group dance "Mask Dance" wins popularity among spectators.
