In this regard, Kim Song Jun, vice director-general of the General Bureau of Forest under the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection, told KCNA:

Hundreds of millions of trees are to be planted across the country this year, a year of key importance in implementing the five-year strategy for national economic development.

Tens of millions of saplings of good species were planted throughout the country in the recent 15 days. They included a lot of trees of 30-odd species in Pyongyang City and more than 16 million trees in North Hwanghae Province.

North and South Phyongan, Kangwon and South Hamgyong Provinces, too, have turned out in the campaign to plant needle-leaf and broad-leaved trees on the principles of planting the right tree on the right soil at the right time.

Meanwhile, Ryanggang and Jagang provinces have hastened the preparation for planting trees suitable to the climate of northern alpine region.

Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un in his New Year Address called for making proactive efforts to implement the tasks for the second stage of the forest restoration campaign, improving landscaping, urban management and road administration, and taking every precaution against environmental pollution.
