Gyula Thurmer, chairman of the Hungarian Workers' Party, was elected as chairman of the preparatory committee.

The committee decided to give wide publicity to the revolutionary careers and exploits of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il and the successes registered by the Korean people in building a powerful socialist country under the guidance of Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un through media and hold colorful political and cultural events on the occasion of the Day of the Sun.
