The Central Zoo is a base of national treasure for cultural and leisure activities built thanks to the great efforts made by President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il for the people, and an important centre conducive to the education of school youth and children and zoology researches.

Kim Il Sung drafted a plan to build a zoo of world standard at the foot of Mt Taesong. He visited the construction site of the zoo on April 30, Juche 48 (1959) to indicate important tasks and ways and turned the Central Zoo into a cultural and leisure site frequented by the people.

Kim Jong Il visited the Central Zoo several times to give detailed guidance and sent a lot of rare animals, vehicles and equipments for the pleasure of the people.

Over the past 60 years the Central Zoo has developed into a peculiar and popular base of cultural and leisure activities, educational base for working people, youth and students.

A meeting was held on Monday to mark its founding anniversary.

Present at the meeting were An Jong Su, vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, and officials and employees of the Central Zoo.
