The whole history of the Korean revolution is a history of self-reliance.

The revolutionary spirit of self-reliance was created in the early 1930s when President Kim Il Sung organized and led the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle.

In those days the anti-Japanese guerrillas manufactured, at an arsenal in thick forests little different from a smithy, such ammunitions as bombs, pistols and rifles, which could be made only at a modern munitions factory, by their own efforts to defeat the Japanese imperialist aggressors and realize the historic cause of Korea's liberation.

By carrying forward this revolutionary spirit of self-reliance created during the anti-Japanese war, the Korean people have gained epoch-making victories in the revolution and construction generation after generation.

They built a new, democratic Korea from scratch and realized the socialist industrialization in a short period of 14 years on the war ruins, thus building a socialist Korea, independent in politics, self-supporting in the economy and self-reliant in national defence, on this land.

In the 1990s, they achieved a brilliant victory in defending socialism and laid firm foundations for building a powerful socialist country under the banner of self-reliance, despite the imperialist allied forces' harsh moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK.

In recent years, the Korean people achieved the historic cause of simultaneously developing the two fronts amid a do-or-die confrontation with imperialism and put the strategic position of the DPRK on the highest level. They have also brought about big strides in making the national economy Juche-based, including metallurgical, chemical and mechanical industries.

In this regard, world media say that the DPRK is further consolidating the self-supporting economic foundations and the economic structure of self-sufficiency based on its effort, technology and resources and that the DPRK will rely on self-reliance and self-development in promoting its economy.

The Korean people are now dynamically waging an all-out death-defying campaign to bring about a great surge in socialist construction, holding self-reliance as the treasure sword of prosperity.
