The statement said that the appeal of the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Committee to Support the Reunification of Korea was issued at a time when the positive atmosphere toward peace and reunification on the Korean Peninsula should be valued and active efforts directed to more favorably develop the current situation, irrespective of ideology, political view and religious belief.

It extended full support to the initiative made by the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Committee to Support the Reunification of Korea, and went on:

The Panmunjom Declaration and the September Pyongyang Joint Declaration are of great significance as they reflect the firm resolution and will to open the era of peace without war in the Korean peninsula.

As was indicated in the June 12 DPRK-U.S. Joint Statement, it is the steadfast stand of the Workers' Party of Korea and the DPRK government to establish new relations between the two countries as required by the new century and build a lasting and durable peace-keeping mechanism on the Korean Peninsula.

We will join the international activities calling for checking every move to escalate military tension on the Korean Peninsula and for leading the peaceful atmosphere to the establishment of a permanent peace-keeping mechanism.

We extend firm solidarity to the Korean people in the struggle for achieving the reunification of the country in the spirit of national independence.
