Pyongyang, May 30 (KCNA) -- The DPRK Red Cross Society (RCS) has conducted diverse activities for implementing its 2016-2020 strategic plan. According to an official concerned, the prospective target of this plan is to build safe and healthy residential districts based on self-reliance and self-development by dint of humanity. As a result of such activities, signal successes have been made in all aspects, including the disaster risk reduction in populated areas, public health, WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene), improvement of inhabitants' living conditions, volunteer management, disaster response, emergency health response and emergency WASH response. When the northern area of North Hamgyong Province suffered from floods in Juche 105 (2016), the RCS rapidly launched emergency relief activities in keeping with the step taken by the DPRK government to eradicate the aftermath of disaster and bring the inhabitants' life to normal as soon as possible. Practical measures were taken to ensure close touch with the State Emergency Disaster Committee, the State Hydro-meteorological Administration, the Ministry of Public Health and other relevant units in case of natural disasters. In cooperation with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the RCS drew up an anti-drought emergency action program. On this basis, it is now working to ward off the damage in drought-stricken areas. And it has steadily increased the number of volunteers to strengthen its emergency response ability. The DPRK RCS is striving to discharge its mission and carry out the strategic plan in accordance with the fundamental principle of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. |
