High-yielding Peanut Strains Bred in DPRK
Pyongyang, June 25 (KCNA) -- The Dry-field Crop Research Institute under the Academy of Agricultural Science in the DPRK has bred new strains of peanut in recent years.

In this regard, Master Pak Jong Su, deputy director of the institute, told KCNA:

The newly bred peanuts are of big economic value as they are higher in fat content and yield than the previous strains.

They are "peanuts 16 and 18" and "black peanut 3", which were registered in the list of national variety.

"Black peanut 3", bred in the method of hybridization, is rich in content of selenium and vitamins.

The per-hectare yield of new strains is 500-1,000 kilograms higher than the previous ones.

In the future, too, the institute will strive to breed more high-yielding strains.
