Minju Joson Marks World Population Day
Pyongyang, July 10 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson on Wednesday dedicates an article to World Population Day.

In celebration of July 11, 1987 when the world population amounted to five billion, UNFPA fixed the day as World Population Day.

Marking this day every year, UNFPA helps governments of various countries and UNFPA offices across the world conduct different activities under the subject of tackling the issue of population.

This year's subject for the World Population Day is the "25 years of the ICPD: Accelerating the Promise".

25 years have passed since the "ICPD Programme of Action" was adopted in Cairo, Egypt, in September 1994.

During those days a number of international accords such as "Beijing Declaration and Programme of Action" and "Asia-Pacific Declaration on Population and Development" were adopted and a lot of works have been conducted.

The paper says that the DPRK has achieved many successes for the past 25 years in implementing the programme of action adopted at the "ICPD" held in 1994.

It goes on:

The DPRK will conduct colorful activities including a seminar on World Population Day this year.

The DPRK will as ever make positive efforts for attaining the goals of strategy for national public health in order to put the average longevity of human beings, mortality rate of children aged one or under and delivery assistance on the world advanced level and further the cooperation with the international organizations including UNFPA.
