Name of Sun Presented by Korean Nation to President Kim Il Sung
Pyongyang, August 16 (KCNA) -- President Kim Il Sung received the august name of the sun reflecting the desire and expectation of the entire Korean nation in his teens, and achieved the historic cause of Korea's liberation on August 15, 1945.

In early years, the Korean people presented the President the august name, regarding him as the outstanding leader of the nation.

In the late 1920s, revolutionary poet Kim Hyok created the song "Star of Korea" in praise of the President whom the Korean people held as the great man in high esteem for the first time in the 5 000-year-long history of the Korean nation.

The song was widely disseminated not only to China but also to the homeland and Japan. Such fact clearly showed the ardent wish of the people to hold him as the leader of the nation.

After then, youth revolutionaries of new generation and the people named him "Kim Il Sung", wishing him to be the sun saving the destiny of the nation.

In the period of the anti-Japanese war, the Korean people created many legends, praising him as the "savior of the fellow countrymen with the spirit of Mt Paektu" and the "Heaven-sent saint bringing all blessings to the people".

The anti-Japanese guerillas wrote "General Kim Il Sung is the sun of all people", "Long live General Kim Il Sung, the sun of all people and the leader of liberation Long live the national liberation", "Let us uphold General Kim Il Sung, the peerless hero, down through the posterity" and many other revolutionary slogans on trees in the primitive forests of the homeland and Northeast China, and thus instilling the great national pride and hope into the fellow countrymen.

By leading the 20-year-long anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle to victory, the President put an end to the history of national sufferings and fully demonstrated before the world the dignity of Korea which eclipsed in the world map in the past.
