The great leaders had worked heart and soul to improve the people's diet through production of mushroom.

Long ago, President Kim Il Sung stressed the need to cultivate mushroom with various nutriments like protein on a large scale and put its cultivation on an industrial basis. He even showed the way for cultivating mushroom anyplace and paid attention to the making of processed mushroom.

Chairman Kim Jong Il saw to it that mushroom cultivation bases with large capacity were built across the country and the methods of cultivating various species of mushroom with high productivity were developed.

In order to put into practice the desire of the great leaders, Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un took a step to build a modern mushroom institute. And he visited the completed Central Mushroom Institute under the Ministry of Agriculture in October Juche 102 (2013) to give instructions on putting the mushroom production on an industrial basis.

He in his New Year addresses called for increasing the mushroom production and stressed in his historic report to the Seventh Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea on the Work of the Central Committee that production at mushroom farms should be normalized for the benefit of the people.

Under his energetic guidance, many mushroom farms including the Pyongyang Mushroom Farm were built and remarkable successes like the industrialization of the production of pleurotus based on rice-straw fermentation were made.
