Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- In Pyongyang, there are famous monuments symbolic of the DPRK. The memorial to the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle and the memorial to the socialist revolution and building of socialism of the Grand Monument on Mansu Hill, erected in April Juche 61 (1972), show the undying revolutionary feats performed by President Kim Il Sung. On both sides of flag-shaped memorials with several large red flags are 228 groups of sculptures showing the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle, socialist revolution and the struggle for socialist construction. The Tower of the Juche Idea stands high on the bank of the Taedong River opposite to Kim Il Sung Square where there is the starting point of the country's road. The tower is composed of a torch, the tower body, a group of three people depicting worker, farmer and intellectual, subsidiary groups and pavilions. And in the middle of the Taedong River are two huge fountains which send up a jet of water 150 meters high. The torch in the shape of burning flames on the top of this 170 meter-high stone tower symbolizes the immortality of the Juche idea and its great victory. The Tower of the Juche Idea was unveiled on April 15, 1982, the 70th birthday of the President. And there is the Monument to Party Foundation, which was erected in October 1995 to hand down to posterity the feats performed by Kim Il Sung in the cause of building a Juche-based revolutionary party. |
