The restaurant, built in Korean style on the picturesque Taedong River bank, serves national and foreign dishes like Pyongyang cold noodle, sinsollo (dish in cooking brazier), sturgeon dish and terrapin dish. It can accommodate several thousands of visitors a day.

In particular, Pyongyang cold noodle is famous worldwide for its fresh and peculiar taste. It is one of the Korean people's favorite foods.

After eating Pyongyang cold noodle, foreigners from China, Russia, Switzerland, France, Britain and other countries admired the taste of the noodle as the best one in the world.

A state raw material supply system has been established for the restaurant.

President Kim Il Sung personally appointed the site of the restaurant and named it Okryu Restaurant. And he attended its inaugural ceremony, declaring the operation of the restaurant.

The President also gave field guidance to the restaurant tens of times, including September 8, Juche 78 (1989), to make it a model of socialist catering service.

Chairman Kim Jong Il took measures to reconstruct the restaurant on a modern basis and newly arrange a delicacy house at it and settled such problems for its operation as the provision of kitchen utensils and service equipment.

Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un stressed the need for the restaurant to serve the visitors with more delicious dishes.

Cooks of the restaurant have won gold medals and top prizes at national cooking contests and festivals by improving their cookery.
