Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- September 9 is the birthday of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. On this occasion, the Korean people are recollecting the noble patriotic will of President Kim Il Sung associated with the name of the country and its flag and emblem. In the days of building a new country after Korea's liberation from Japan's colonial rule, the President clarified that the name of the country should be called the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in reflection of its independent, democratic and popular characters and the immediate tasks and fundamental object of the Korean revolution. And he resolutely rejected some alien elements' wrong assertion that words "people" and "democratic" should be omitted from the name of the country. In November Juche 36 (1947), he assigned an artist to the task for making designs of the flag and emblem of the state to be founded in the future. He said that the national flag and emblem should be fresh ones mirroring the soul of Korea and the idea and spirit of Juche. When meeting with designers for the national flag and emblem, he said that the national flag and emblem should reflect well the character of the DPRK, a dignified, independent and sovereign state. And he advised that the national emblem be attached to by a hydro-power plant and a five-point star to show the prospect of the DPRK as an advanced industrial state and its victory. He also gave detailed instructions on the national flag, including the proportion of red, white and blue colors and the five-point star. He said that the five-point star in the white circle represents the tradition the country to be inherited, the stamina of resourceful Korean people and the bright future of the country. |
