Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- Among the Korean nation's historical relics is the Taeryong-gang Great Wall, which was built along the Taeryong River in the country's northwestern part as a natural moat at the close of Koguryo Kingdom (B.C. 277-A.D. 668). Its total length is about 240 kilometers. The great wall, built as one of the defenses in depth to defend the capital of Koguryo, has a main wall and a long branch-wall with several small branch walls that played as cut-offs. Cliffs at the riverside were used as the wall. The wall was piled up with stones and mixture of stone and mud according to sections. The height of the present wall is 7-10 meters. The great wall is a precious historical relic showing the Korean nation's ardent patriotism and art of fortification. |
