The city has laid a foundation to increase the production of quality insam by expanding its cultivation area to hundreds of hectares and applying various biological pesticides in recent five years.

It has also developed lots of processed Koryo insam goods.

The Kaesong Koryo Insam Processing Factory is now mass-producing various liquid medicines, pills and powdered medicines, including insam coffee and Hongsam (red insam) powder. In particular, Kaesong Koryo insam complex nutritive powder and Hongsam green tea, developed by the factory, won a state quality certification.

Meanwhile, Kaesong Folk Hotel, Janamsan Hotel and other public service establishments in the city serve various dishes made of insam like chicken soup boiled with insam, insam tea, insam tonic and insam cake. Those dishes are popular among not only the Korean people but also foreigners for their medicinal value.
