10-odd round- and oval-shaped dolmens were unearthed in the area of Mt Ryongak in Mangyongdae District, Pyongyang.

It is the first time to discover such shapes of dolmens in the country. The discovery is of significance in proving the fact that the cradle of dolmen is Pyongyang area and in studying the development level of ancient culture of Korea.

Tens of tombs dating back to the ancient times and the early middle ages were excavated in the area of Rangnang District, Pyongyang.

Among them are three mural tombs. The murals show the figure and genre paintings and a picture of king's procession in the period of Koguryo.

And a pair of gold eardrops was discovered at an earthen tomb with a stone chamber. The first discovery of eardrops from Koguryo tomb shows the development of metal workmanship at that time.

Unearthed in Hongwon County of South Hamgyong Province were a castle on Mt Songryong and a group of tombs in Pusang-ri. Scientists proved that the castle was built in the period of Koguryo and used till the period of Palhae (698-926).

The discovery of more than 270 tombs in the area of Pusang-ri opened a prospect to explain in a scientific way the history and culture of the early middle ages in the east coastal area.

Besides, the scientists made a new survey of several royal-class mausoleums in Kaesong area.
