Rodong Sinmun says that Kim Jong Il's election as the WPK general secretary on Oct. 8, Juche 86 (1997) was a political event of great significance in strengthening the WPK and accomplishing the revolutionary cause of Juche.

As he was held in high esteem as the top leader of the Party, the red flag of the Juche-type party could flutter as the ever-victorious banner and the Korean-style socialism win victory after victory in the face of the strong wind of history, says the paper.

It highly praises him as a man of great eminence who developed the WPK into the leader's party in which uniqueness in ideology and leadership and continuity to its leadership were successfully achieved.

It also praises him as a peerless elder statesman who developed the WPK into an invincible one that integrated itself into the popular masses, and as an outstanding leader who strengthened it into a revolutionary one with a powerful military foundation.

It notes that the cause of the WPK is invincible as it advances under the banner of Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism, holding in high esteem President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il, the founder and the builder of the WPK, as eternal leaders.

Minju Joson says that Kim Jong Il built the WPK to be an organizer and guide of all victories of the people and always led the Party and revolution to victory, stressing that his undying feats will shine for all ages as an eternal cornerstone for accomplishing the revolutionary cause of Juche.
