History of Korean Nation Shined by Great Persons
Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- The Mausoleum of King Tangun, ancestral father of the Korean nation, is located in Munhung-ri of Kangdong County, Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK.

The mausoleum was inaugurated on October 11, Juche 83 (1994), under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il who had worked heart and soul to add brilliance to the history of the nation spanning 5000 years.

Tangun is the founder of Ancient Korea (early 30th century B.C.-108 B.C.), the first state in the history of Korea.

But he had been known as a mythical being and the work for proving his existence met with difficulties due to the foreign aggressors' moves to obliterate Tangun and tamper with history.

The President assigned historians to a task for deepening the study of Tangun and took a step to unearth his tomb in January 1993.

Found out there were remains believed to be Tangun and his wife. And they were confirmed to be more than 5000-years old through scores of measurements.

Being informed of the fact, the President, in spite of his advanced age of eighty, visited the foot of Mt Taebak to set it as the site for King Tangun's Mausoleum and unfold a blueprint for its construction.

When the entire nation was overcame with grief at the demise of the President (July 8, 1994), Chairman Kim Jong Il saw to it that the mausoleum was built on the highest level.

He took measures to mobilize the powerful force to its construction and provide building materials and equipment preferentially, while guiding in detail the work to build it well in keeping with features of the age and the nation's customs.

Thanks to his noble love for the nation, the mausoleum was successfully built in less than one year.

Looking round the reconstructed mausoleum on October 29 1994, the Chairman referred to the feat of the President who found out King Tangun, once known as a mythical being in thousands of years, and added brilliance to the history and wisdom of the Korean nation through its wonderful reconstruction. This is a great auspicious event of the nation, he said, stressing the need to preserve well the mausoleum as a national treasure.

The Mausoleum of King Tangun implants in the mind of the Korean people the truth that the time-honored history, excellent tradition and culture of the nation can be preserved and shined only when it is led by a peerlessly great man.
