Application of "Program for Free Education and Upbringing of Children" to Korean Kindergartens Demanded

Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- The delegates of the branches of the Liaison Society for Protecting Korean Kindergartens in 18 regions of Japan, where Korean kindergartens are located, reportedly carried out activities demanding the Cabinet Office, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare of Japan to apply the "program for free education and upbringing of children" to Korean kindergartens on Sep. 26.

They read out a request to the Japanese authorities for application of tuition waiver program also for Korean high schools and "program for free education and upbringing of children" to Korean kindergartens adopted on Sep. 21 at the 11th meeting of mothers of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon).

The request demanded that the Japanese authorities and local self-governing bodies recognize Korean kindergartens at Korean schools as an object of application of the program and take a measure to render financial support for upbringing all the Korean kindergarteners.

The request was conveyed to those authorities concerned.

Meanwhile the participants in the request activities held a press conference to bitterly denounce the Japanese authorities' "program for free education and upbringing of children" which excluded Korean kindergartens at Korean schools.
