The commanding officers and shock brigade members of the railroad construction brigade under the 216 Division pushed ahead with gigantic construction such as scores of tunnels and bridges and more than 120000 square meters of retaining walls in a sweeping way to spruce up the Hyesan-Samjiyon track.

The construction of Hyesan-Samjiyon railroad has further vitalized the land of Samjiyon whose looks undergo a radical change and made a great progress in properly ensuring convenience of the visitors to the revolutionary battle sites and revolutionary sites in the area of Mt Paektu and perfecting the railway network of the country.

The Hyesan-Samjiyon railroad was opened to traffic with due ceremony at the Wiyon Youth Railway Station on Oct. 15.

Present at the ceremony were Kim Jae Ryong, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, member of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK and premier of the Cabinet, O Su Yong, vice-chairman of the WPK Central Committee, Tong Jong Ho, vice-premier of the Cabinet, Jang Hyok, minister of Railways, Pak Hun, minister of Construction and Building-Materials Industry, Ri Song Guk, chairman of the Ryanggang Provincial People's Committee, officials concerned, commanding officers and shock brigade members of the railroad construction brigade under the 216 Division, officials of the Hyesan Railway Branch Bureau, labor innovators and working people in Hyesan City.
