The advent of this liquor would have been unthinkable without guidance of the peerlessly great men.

Chairman Kim Jong Il initiated the construction of a modern liquor factory in Pyongyang and appointed the site for it. And he settled all the problems arising in its construction, including the building force and production equipment.

In September Juche 98 (2009) he visited the factory, built into a model of food industry, and named it "Taedonggang Foodstuff Factory" and its product "Pyongyang Liquor".

He even took a step to produce the bottles for this liquor in the country and instructed to make its trademark in a formative and artistic way. Thanks to his energetic guidance, the trademark showing the Taedong Gate symbolic of old Pyongyang, ancestors making liquor and a seal mark with red letters "Joson Myongju" (Korean Famous Liquor) came into being.

He also said that the price of the liquor should be cheap for the people.

Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un, who steadfastly carries forward the love of Kim Jong Il for the people, appreciated Pyongyang Liquor on several occasions and set it as the national liquor in June 2015.
