The factory is associated with devoted efforts of Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un.

The Supreme Leader initiated the construction of a modern and large-capacity kimchi factory, settled problems arising in its construction and named it "Ryugyong Kimchi Factory".

When visiting the factory in June Juche 105 (2016), he said it is the Party's intention to turn the Ryugyong Kimchi Factory into an icon and standard unit for the industrial production of kimchi in the country. And he gave an instruction that the officials and employees of the factory should produce in a larger quantity various kinds of fresh kimchi with high nutritive value and peculiar taste and supply them to the public catering establishments and residents in the city of Pyongyang, thus contributing to the improvement of people's diet.

He visited again the factory in January next year and stressed the need to produce the nation's traditional food kimchi as the world's best food as it is well-known as one of the world's five health foods.

And he said that modern kimchi factories should be built in all provinces, too, with the Ryugyong Kimchi Factory as a model and standard.

Thanks to his guidance of devotion to the people, the Ryugyong Kimchi Factory came into being and a new history of industrial production of kimchi was opened.
