Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un stressed at the Fifth Plenary Meeting of the Seventh Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea held in December last year that the light industrial sector should produce and ensure more consumer goods in keeping with the people's cultural and emotional requirement by directing efforts to the modernization and localization of products and the improvement of their quality.

According to Sin Jae Myong, department director of the Ministry of Light Industry, the units producing cloth, footwear and knitted clothes have planned to develop 200-odd main and over 700 expanded varieties of new products.

To this end, the designing for products will be conducted in a mass campaign.

Now all the factories and enterprises are directing big efforts to the development of world-famous products and commodities with a competitive edge.

In particular, the shoe-making industry set its goal for the year to develop over 70 main and 500-odd expanded varieties and thus provide the people with better and more diverse footwear.
