The province has many creations of self-reliance, which could serve as models for the country, including the Wonsan Army-People Power Station, the Kangwon Provincial Tree Nursery, the Maebongsan Spring Water Factory, the Kangwon Provincial Fishery Station, the Wonsan Mushroom Farm, the Kangwon Provincial Institute of Agricultural Science, the Wonsan Vegetable Research Branch and the Kangwon Provincial Home for the Aged.

In the province, mountains account for over 90 percent of its territory and the number of 20 kilometers-long rivers and streams reach nearly 200. The Wonsan Youth Power Station and other hydraulic power stations have been built in steep mountains.

The province plans to complete six army-people power stations this year and then to build 17 more power stations.

The Wonsan Salt Works built a refined salt-production process and backup reservoirs to increase the output every year.

The Wonsan Leather Shoes Factory produces products popular among people.

Wonsan University of Agriculture has achieved a lot of successes in scientific research at soil-using pollution-free greenhouse and education.

The province is pushing ahead with more than 10 major construction projects including the building of a greenhouse farm in the vast land of Segil and Songchon areas of Wonsan City.
