Protection of Disabled Persons in DPRK
Pyongyang, February 26 (KCNA) -- In the DPRK the disabled persons are leading a happy life with their independent rights and interests legally assured.

The protection of the disabled in the country began after the liberation of Korea (August 15, 1945) from Japan's colonial rule.

President Kim Il Sung formulated the "Labour Law for the Factory and Office Workers in North Korea" in June Juche 35 (1946), which deals with the issues of providing the living conditions to the disabled persons.

During the Fatherland Liberation War (1950-1953), he took a step to build a school for disabled soldiers and settled all the problems arising in its construction and operation, including the issues of running the school at the state expense and providing school things, uniforms, living necessities and prostheses free of charge.

And disabled soldiers' factories, light labor workshops, sanatoriums, schools for the deaf-and-dumb and the blind and other establishments for the disabled came into being in different parts of the country under his meticulous care.

Chairman Kim Jong Il saw to it that a machinery specializing in the protection of the disabled was set up in 1998 and that the "DPRK Law on the Protection of the Disabled" was adopted in June 2003.

With the warm love for the people, Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un has always shown deep care for the life of the disabled. He took all necessary measures for the protection of the disabled and made it sure that the whole society is replete with beautiful traits of caring for and helping disabled persons with kinship.

In the country a signal progress has been made in the work to carry into practice the phased plans for developing the protection of the disabled over the past years.

Today the disabled persons are enjoying the creative working life and the cultural and emotional life to the full under the socialist system, taking active part in sports and art activities according to their wishes and aptitudes.
