Target of Forest Restoration Campaign for This Year
Pyongyang, February 28 (KCNA) -- The target of forest restoration campaign in the DPRK for this year is to create mixed forests in a more rational way.

In this regard, Kim Song Jun, vice director-general of the General Bureau of Forest under the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection, told KCNA:

Hundreds of millions of trees will be planted in the areas covering 170000 hectares with the cultivation of more than one billion saplings this year.

In order to raise the growth speed, carbon dioxide absorption and water storage ability of trees, it is planned to create mixed forests with spruce, oak, pine and white birch.

And broadleaf trees containing rich nutritive substances will be planted in lowlands, Larix lepolepis, Mongolian oak and fir in middle lands and aspen and Picea Koraiensis in highlands.

Meanwhile, the bureau has worked out a plan to enhance the scenic beauty of forests and heighten the effect of preventing landslide and flood damage by properly combining the fast-growing and tall trees with slow-growing and dwarf ones in forestation.
