Twice world table-tennis championship holder Pak Yong Sun, world marathon queen Jong Song Ok, four times world Judo championship holder Kye Sun Hui, twice world boxing championship holders Ri Jong Hyang and Yun Kum Ju and twice Olympic medalist Rim Jong Sim showed the indomitable fighting spirit and high sportsmanship at international games to strike the world with wonder.

Ri Kum Suk, Hong Myong Gum, Ra Un Sim, Ho Un Byol, Ri Hyang Sim, Wi Jong Sim and other footballers won victories three times at the Asian Women's Football Championships and the women's football events of the Asian Games respectively and obtained U-20 women's world cup twice.

An Kum Ae, Hong Un Jong, Ri Song Hui, Kim Jong, Kim Kum Ok and many other sportswomen, too, proved successful at the Olympic Games and world and Asian championships.

In praise of their feats, the DPRK government awarded the titles of DPRK Hero and Labor Hero and the titles of People's Athlete and Merited Athlete on them.
