Efforts for Implementing National Disaster Risk Reduction Strategy
Pyongyang, March 20 (KCNA) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea is pushing ahead with the work to implement the National Disaster Risk Reduction Strategy (NDRRS) for the period of 2019-2030 drawn up in conformity with such international agreements as Sendai framework document.

In this regard, Kim Yong Chol, department director of the State Emergency Disaster Committee, told KCNA:

It is the general target of the strategy to prevent in advance the existing or potential disaster risks under the unified direction of the state, guarantee the sustained socio-economic development by enhancing the anti-disaster reaction and recoverability and reduce to the maximum the damage to the people's lives and properties and to the economic, social, cultural and environmental wealth.

It is planned in the strategy to complete the national disaster management structure and the emergency counteraction system, enhance the all-people's awareness of disaster risk and counteraction, develop the science and technology for disaster management, foster the ability of providing funds and material supplies and establish the disaster fund.

As the first stage of the strategy, provincial, city and county people's committees will work out their regional disaster risk reduction plans in accordance with the NDRRS and confirm the basic data for ensuring scientific accuracy in disaster management and finish the survey of dangerous objects on a nationwide scale till 2022.

Now, a work is going on to strengthen the natural disaster warning system, raise the nationwide interest in disabled persons, elders, children and expectant and nursing mothers and build up the database on disasters.
