Project for Expanding Iron and Steel Production Capacity Hastened

Pyongyang, March 23 (KCNA) -- The metallurgical industrial sector of the DPRK has set it as an important task to satisfy the requirement of the national economy for iron and steel by further perfecting the Juche-based technology for manufacturing iron and steel, expanding the iron production capacity and decisively raising the quality of metallic material.

This year's goal for its realization is to expand the iron and steel production capacity of Kim Chaek and Hwanghae iron and steel complexes markedly.

At present, a project is progressing apace to additionally create the oxygen production capacity at those complexes.

Foundation works for a compressor plant, separator system and a cooling tower of circulation-water pumping station of large oxygen separator were completed in the main at the Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex. The complex is speeding up the assembling of equipment and steel structure.

The Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex, too, went into a concrete placing after finishing footing excavation for installing a large oxygen separator.

Meanwhile, they are simultaneously pushing ahead with the work to build energy-saving oxygen heat blast furnaces.
