Pyongyang, March 26 (KCNA) -- Pyongyang cold noodle, one of the traditional Korean foods, is popular among not only the Korean people but also foreigners for its fresh and peculiar taste.

From olden times, the Korean people have made tens of kinds of noodles suited to their specific local conditions.

At the top of them is Pyongyang cold noodle which has peculiar features in terms of strip, soup, garnish, seasoning, vessel and preparing. Its main raw material is buckwheat, and soup is characterized by savory and fresh flavors as it is prepared with refined meat broth and watery radish kimchi.

History books "Tongguksesigi" compiled in the period of feudal Joson dynasty (1392-1910) and "Haedongjukji" (1921) say that Pyongyang cold noodle made with buckwheat is the best.

Pyongyang cold noodle has served as a favorite food to everyone not only in summer but also in winter for its peculiar taste.

Thanks to the policy of the Workers' Party of Korea for steadily inheriting and glorifying the national traditions, Pyongyang cold noodle was registered as a national intangible cultural heritage.
