Scientific Research for Preventing Disaster Brisk in DPRK
Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- A brisk work is going on in the DPRK to establish a well-knit nationwide crisis management system against natural disasters.

The Global Environmental Information Institute under the State Academy of Sciences has pushed ahead with the scientific research for preventing disasters.

According to an official concerned, the research for establishment and introduction of a national integrated natural disaster control information system will help protect the life and safety of the people from natural disasters, minimize the damage from them and conserve the precious resources of the country and its land and environment.

The institute developed a program for establishing a national disaster information collecting and monitoring system to be introduced into cities and counties. And it drew up a map for grasping the areas with high risk of natural disasters like flood, drought, typhoon and landslide.

Also, an integrated flood control information system and terminal unit flood control information system were introduced to help estimate disasters related to flooding in the country as a whole and regions and give information on their danger degree and take prompt measures.

The institute is now stepping up the researches to work out an information system for control over destructive natural phenomena and other programs for coping with disasters rapidly.
