A research group of the Pyongyang Floriculture Institute has spread Manbokhwa across the country after mass-breeding it on an advanced bioengineering method.

This flower is associated with the deep care of the great leaders.

When visiting the newly-built Pyongyang Floriculture Institute in March Juche 100 (2011), Chairman Kim Jong Il was told about the newly-bred species of cymbidium. He gave an instruction that newly-bred flowers should be named after coming into bloom. It was his last instruction left for the officials and researchers of the institute.

One spring day of next year marking the centenary of the birth of President Kim Il Sung, Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un viewed a photo of newly-bred cymbidium and named it "Manbokhwa", saying it is a very beautiful flower.

The Supreme Leader also stressed the need to supply lots of flowers to flower shops, noting that flower is a symbol of beauty and culture and plays an important role in the cultural and emotional life of working people.
