It was his idea of great national unity that the people from all walks of life should unite as one by prioritizing the common demand and interests of the nation to defend and realize its independence, irrespective of differences in ideology and ism, political view and religion, property status and social position.

The President founded the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland (ARF), an anti-Japanese national united front, in May Juche 25 (1936) by embodying this idea during the anti-Japanese armed struggle. Stretching its branches to all parts of Korea from its northern part as well as to vast area of Northeast China and Japan in a short period, the ARF developed into a pan-national organization comprising hundreds of thousands of members to contribute to the liberation of Korea.

In the period of building a new country, too, he appealed to the Korean nation to positively contribute to the state building, those with strength dedicating strength, those with knowledge devoting knowledge and those with money offering money. And he had led all the people loving the country and the nation to turn out in the work for building a democratic, independent and sovereign state by united efforts.

He regarded the great national unity as the mainstay for Korea's reunification and convened the Joint Conference of Representatives of Political Parties and Public Organizations in North and South Korea in April 1948 to smash the separatists' moves.

He also set forth the Three Principles of National Reunification--independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity--, the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo and the 10-point programme of the great unity of the whole nation, thus providing a great program for Korea's reunification to be adhered to by the entire nation.

The undying feats performed by the President for the great national unity will remain forever along with the history of the country.
