Past Crimes Done by Japanese Imperialists to Exterminate Korean Nation

Pyongyang, April 29 (KCNA) -- During their colonial rule over Korea in the last century, the Japanese imperialists perpetrated lots of crimes upon the Korean nation. Among them was a scheme for "making Koreans Japanese subjects" aimed to reduce the Korean people into permanent colonial slaves of Japan. The Japanese imperialists regarded the ideas of "Japanese and Koreans are one" and "the Japanese and the Korean are of the same ancestry" as the main in materializing this scheme. To this end, they had already forced the Korean people to worship at the Japanese shrines and cooked up what was called "pledge of an imperial subject" early in October 1937 to compel all Koreans to read it every morning. They made the schools and organs at all levels execute a rule of chanting in unison the "pledge" every morning. If any Koreans did not recite it in Japanese, they had to be treated as "unpatriotic persons" and suffer harsh punishment. They also forced the Koreans to use Japanese as their unique language, arguing that "use of the Japanese language was absolutely needed for acquiring Japan's spirit". In November 1939, they established a legal foundation for changing Koreans' full names into the Japanese ones. They put those persons refusing to meet such demand to "labor conscription" or "patriotic corps" and prohibited their children from entering into ordinary school or high school. They even did such sinister deeds as changing Koreans' names into Japanese ones against their will. In fact, the scheme for "making Koreans Japanese subjects" was an act of exterminating nation, unprecedented in human history in its brutality, craftiness and viciousness. |
