Difference in Housing Problem between Socialist and Capitalist Societies
Pyongyang, May 27 (KCNA) -- The enlarged meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea in last February dealt with practical measures to propel the construction of houses in Pyongyang and local areas.

Under the third-stage project for sprucing up Samjiyon City, the framework for one hundred and tens of blocks of houses has been completed as of now. And hundreds of houses in tens of blocks sprung up in a mining village of Sinhong Workers' District, Hochon County, South Hamgyong Province.

Meanwhile, a project for building houses for more than 1,000 families is going in earnest around Pyongyang International Airport. And a large number of houses are under construction in Ryongchon County of North Phyongan Province and other areas of the country.

All those houses built at state expense are allotted free of charge, and this principle is legally ensured in the DPRK.

Ri Ok Gum, a resident in Ryomyong Street, Pyongyang City, told KCNA: Three years ago, foreigners visited my house and said it is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in their country. Their words made me so surprised.

This is the reality of the DPRK that the people don't know about house price and rent.

Generally the house price and rent are very expensive in capitalist society.

In the U.S. alone, more than 500,000 people are reportedly wandering from place to place without their own houses.

This fact in the aspect of housing problem well shows the difference between the socialist society of the DPRK based on the people-first principle and the capitalist society talking about "welfare for all".
