Opening Process of Negotiation for Return of U.S. Military Bases Urged

Pyongyang, June 8 (KCNA) -- South Korean organizations had a press conference outside the U.S. military base in Ryongsan on June 4 in demand of making public the proceedings of the humiliating negotiation with the U.S. for the return of its military base, according to the south Korean online newspaper Voice of People.

Speakers said that all sorts of toxic materials are detected in the bases held by the U.S. military for decades to cause a public furor.

They said south Korea bears the great expense of purification, while the U.S. military does not make even an apology, let alone shoulder responsibility for the environmental pollution in the base.

They stressed that the return of the base without clearing pollution can not be allowed, recalling that another negotiation for the return of the U.S. military base in Ryongsan is under way.

They said that the government should make public the details about the negotiation for the return of the U.S. military base, noting that the environmental pollution in the U.S. military bases is due to the unequal south Korea-U.S. "status of forces agreement".
