Activities for Land Administration and Protection Brisk in DPRK
Pyongyang, June 16 (KCNA) -- Not a few countries and regions of the world are suffering from drought and desertification due to climate change by global warming, destruction of forests, etc.

Greeting World Day for Combating Desertification and Drought (June 17), the United Nations set this year's theme as "Food. Feed. Fibre." and stressed that it would give importance to changing the cognition of popular masses on indiscriminate production and consumption, the main factor of desertification and land degradation.

In the DPRK, activities for land administration and protection have been conducted in a diverse way.

Afforestation, annually conducted in spring and autumn periods of the general mobilization for land administration, plays an important role in preventing degradation and loss of land.

The country directs effort to protecting land and raising its utility through introduction of agro-forestry management method. And an anti-land-sling project and a river improvement project have been staged in a sustained way to prevent the erosion and loss of soil by natural damage.

Meanwhile, the agricultural sector has actively introduced conservation agriculture conducive to enhancing the moisture and content of humus in soil.

The work to achieve the land degradation neutrality target is under way on an international scale. The DPRK, too, signed this target and is striving to hit it.

It has strengthened the cooperation with the UN Convention to Combat Desertification after it became a member of this convention in Juche 92 (2003).
