New Species of Goldfish Bred
Pyongyang, June 19 (KCNA) -- Scientists in the field of fish farming of the DPRK succeeded in breeding a new species of goldfish.

This goldfish crossbred with carp is called "Namgang-1". It weighs over 30 grams in the year of its hatching and 100-200 grams in the next year. Its growth speed is 1.3 times faster than native goldfish and survival ratio is twice higher than carp.

It can be raised with other species of fishes and its productivity per hectare is three times that of native goldfish. It has less fine bones.

Kim Tong Hak, head of a department of the Fish Farming Management Bureau under the Ministry of Fisheries, told KCNA that the new species of goldfish is now reared at breed-fish station, fish farm and other units.
