History of Workers' Party of Korea
Pyongyang, July 3 (KCNA) -- Ninety years has passed since the formation of the Society for Rallying Comrades (SRC), the first party organization which gave birth to the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK).

At the historic Kalun Meeting (June 30-July 2, 1930), President Kim Il Sung advanced the unique policy on forming grass-root organizations and steadily expanding them to found a party. He said that the preparations for party founding should be surely made in close combination with the anti-Japanese struggle.

On this basis, he formed the first party organization with revolutionaries of new generation on July 3, Juche 19 (1930).

He saw to it that the organization was called SRC, in reflection of the aims and will of revolutionaries of new generation who were taking the first step in the revolution by winning over comrades, and who were determined to develop the revolution in depth and achieve its final victory by continually discovering and rallying those comrades who would share their fate with them.

The SRC was the embryo and seed of the WPK and an organization with the importance of a parent body in forming and expanding the basic organizations of the party.

After its inauguration, a party organization was formed in Onsong area of the homeland with hardcore members of revolutionary organizations and then many other basic party organizations came into being in armed units and in areas of east Manchuria along the River Tuman and northern border areas of Korea in a short period.

A party committee of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army was formed in May 1934 to establish a well-ordered system for the President's guidance over party organizations of all levels in the army and local party organizations. Thus, the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle and the work for building party organizations could be vigorously conducted in reliance on the organized Korean revolutionary force.

With such achievements and experience gained in the period of the anti-Japanese armed struggle, the WPK as the staff of the Korean revolution was founded in less than two months after the liberation of the country (August 15, 1945).
