Pyongyang, July 16 (KCNA) -- The Taejon Liberation Operation in the period of the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953) is recorded as a model of modern-day siege warfare in the world war history. At the operation, the Korean People's Army (KPA) killed or captured 24 228 enemy troops, took away 20 080 stands of small arms, destroyed or captured 150-odd cannons, 49 tanks and some 1 010 armored cars and motorcars and shot down or destroyed 32 planes. Such military achievements would have been unthinkable without the outstanding military idea, distinguished military tactics and rare art of command of President Kim Il Sung. At that time, the enemies chose Taejon as their "temporary capital" and massively concentrated their aggression forces. And they plotted to stop the advance of the KPA units by using the favorable natural and geographical conditions of the River Kum and the Sobaek mountains. Penetrating into such scheme, the President presented a strategic policy to annihilate the enemies in Taejon through encirclement. He guided the operation of KPA units for crossing the River Kum and came to the headquarters at the front to set forth an excellent idea for encircling Taejon swiftly. At dawn of July 20, Juche 39 (1950), the KPA units launched a general offensive and liberated Taejon in seven hours, dealing a telling blow at the enemies. |
