DPRK Newspapers Bring to Light Illegality of "Jongmi Seven-point Treaty"

Pyongyang, July 24 (KCNA) -- Leading newspapers of the DPRK on Friday carried articles on the lapse of 113 years since the Japanese imperialists fabricated the "Jongmi Seven-point Treaty". The "Jongmi Seven-point Treaty" was an illegal document the Japanese imperialists fabricated by using violence and underhanded methods, and a fraudulent one that failed to go through due formalities, says Rodong Sinmun in an article. The article goes on: The Japanese imperialists plotted and executed the dethronement of Emperor Kojong before fabricating the "Jongmi Seven-point Treaty". The wicked Japanese imperialists set Sunjong on the throne and instigated Hirobumi Ito, the chieftain of Japan's aggression of Korea who had come as the first Resident-General, and Ri Wan Yong, the thrice-cursed traitor to the Korean nation, into fabrication of the treaty. The treaty cooked up by the Japanese imperialists to occupy and colonize Korea was nothing but a fraudulent document devoid of legal validity. Hirobumi Ito and Ri Wan Yong signed the treaty without any letter of attorney. In the light of international law, any treaty stipulating such important issue as transfer of the right of home administration of a country must be discussed and signed after reception of the letter of attorney from the head of state of the relevant country. But there is no data proving that letter of attorney was issued for Ito and Ri Wan Yong. The "Jongmi Seven-point Treaty" was an utterly illegal document as it was made between the Korean feudal government which lost its diplomatic right with the conclusion of the "Ulsa (1905) Five-point Treaty" and the Resident-General not eligible to conclude the treaty. It was preposterous that the "treaty" was concluded between the Korean feudal government and Japan which deprived the former of its diplomatic right. Minju Joson, terming the "Jongmi Seven-point Treaty" an illegal and fraudulent document without validity, says that the Japanese imperialists laid a stepping stone for realizing their ambition for aggression aimed at occupying Korea while billing the document as a "legitimate treaty". |
