Pyongyang, August 19 (KCNA) -- Numbers of white egrets are flying into a hillock in Chongchun Street of Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK. According to residents there, white egrets began to fly into the place in the spring season and their number has been growing more and more. White egret is a summer bird in the DPRK, which flies to the southern part of China in October. In the country there are such registered habitats for this bird as Ryongun-ri of Kaechon City in South Phyongan Province, Honghyon-ri of Paechon County in South Hwanghae Province and Sondok-ri of Jongphyong County in South Hamgyong Province, the areas in good harmony with rivers, lakes, reservoirs, mountainous zone and marshlands. Experts say this is the first time for them to have witnessed such many flocks of white egrets flying into the foot of a mountain in Pyongyang, adding that they are spending the breeding season of several months there as the area has a good ecological environment with thick forest. Among those birds inhabiting the area are Great Egret, Intermediate Egret and Little Egret as well as night heron and Bubulcus ibis, rare to be seen in the country. Such phenomena evidently show the validity and vitality of the Workers' Party of Korea's policy for nature conservation. |
