The camp is a palace for children without an equal in the world and a comprehensive extra-curricular educational base for them built under the great loving care and benevolence of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il.

The President chose the best place in Songdowon, scenic spot on the east coast of the DPRK, as the site for the camp and saw to it that the foundation of the camp was known to the world on Aug. 17, Juche 49 (1960). He visited the camp several times, taking deep care of schoolchildren, hope of the country, so that they would grow up vigorously in the cradle of happiness.

Chairman Kim Jong Il made sure that the larger and wonderful camp was built so as to host even foreign children and solved all the issues arising in the management and operation of the camp. He left the history of legendary loving care for children, personally visiting the camp on his journey to frontline units and making sure that all measures were taken for children to spend pleasant days without any slightest inconveniences.

For the past six decades since its founding the camp has made great achievements and fully discharged its duties for the organization and operation of the camp, true to the intention of the Party which puts forward children as the king of the country.

A meeting was held on Wednesday to convey a congratulatory message from the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) to the teaching staff of the camp on the occasion.

Present there were Choe Hwi, vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the WPK, and teaching staff of the camp.
