The college is a competent factory college training working people of the Pyongyang Kim Jong Suk Textile Mill and several industrial establishments in Pyongyang to be talents of practical technologies, and a model unit taking the lead in implementing the Party's policy that calls for fully displaying the superiority of the study-while-working educational system.

President Kim Il Sung set forth the idea to found study-while-working technical colleges at major industrial establishments, saw to it that Pyongyang College of Technology was founded on September 1, Juche 49 (1960), and solved all the problems arising in managing and operating the college.

Chairman Kim Jong Il indicated the directions and ways for improving the education at factory colleges including Pyongyang College of Technology and led the work to make innovations in instruction and education and scientific research.

For the past six decades since its founding, the college has fulfilled its duties true to the Party's policy of attaching importance to education and talents.

A meeting was held on Thursday to convey a congratulatory message from the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea to the teaching staff and students of the college.
