High Precipitation Observed in DPRK
Pyongyang, September 14 (KCNA) -- This summer, the DPRK was hit by disastrous meteorological phenomena like downpour due to the seasonal heavy rainy front and typhoons.

According to the State Hydro-meteorological Administration, the average summer precipitation throughout the country this year was 852.3 mm, 146.1 percent of the average or 217.5 percent of the last year's. It amounts to 88 percent of the annual precipitation, the second highest record in the past 25 years.

In particular, the country witnessed heavy rainfall in August due to the seasonal rainy front affected by Typhoon No. 4 and the direct influence of Typhoon No. 8. The amount of rainfall was 560.5 mm, 255.7 percent of the average.

800-1,000 mm of rainfall was registered in most parts of the country except northern inlands and 1,330.9 mm of rainfall in Kangwon Province, the highest precipitation since meteorological observation.

The summer precipitation in 50 cities and counties on the east and west coasts including Anju City of South Phyongan Province, Kusong City of North Phyongan Province, Phyongsan County of North Hwanghae Province, Paechon County of South Hwanghae Province, Yodok County of South Hamgyong Province and Kumgang County of Kangwon Province was 855-1,748 mm, exceeding the regional average annual precipitation (745-1,357 mm).
