Pyongyang, September 21 (KCNA) -- Recorded in Korea's history of anti-Japanese armed struggle are the heroic feats of Kim Jong Suk, woman commander of Mt Paektu who played the role of fortress and shield to safeguard President Kim Il Sung. At the battle of Fusong county town in August Juche 25 (1936), the anti-Japanese war heroine Kim Jong Suk received an order from the President to prepare the morning meal on a col. While preparing the meal, she came to discover the platoon troops of the enemy creeping along the col in a bid to surround the main unit of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army (KPRA). Regarding it as a critical issue related to the destiny of the KPRA headquarters and unit to defend the col, she drew her Mauser and, with the other women soldiers, delivered heavy fire at the enemy troops to annihilate them. At the Hongqihe battle in March 1940, she alone lured enemies, who sneaked into the KPRA headquarters, into the opposite direction to annihilate them. At that time, two bullets went through an enamelware on her knapsack. In particular, her spirit of defending the leader unto death was fully displayed at the battle in Dashahe gully in June that year. At the critical moment when several enemy soldiers in a reed field were pointing their rifles toward the President at a commanding post, she shielded him with her own body, shooting them to death. September 22 is the 71st anniversary of her demise. |
