Pyongyang, September 28 (KCNA) -- "Mu Ye Do Bo Tong Ji", published in 1790 as a comprehensive illustrated manual of Korean martial arts, is a national classic showing the history of superior orthodox martial arts of the Korean nation. It was registered to the memory of the UNESCO World Regional Register for Asia-Pacific in May Juche 105 (2016) and to the memory of the World Register by UNESCO in October next year. During Japan's colonial rule over Korea, this book was taken away by the Japanese imperialists, together with other valuable books like "Chronicles of the Feudal Joson Dynasty". Only one copy of it has been preserved at the Grand People's Study House in Pyongyang. According to an official of the study house, it was donated in October 1952. President Kim Il Sung attended a meeting of scientists in April 1952 when the Fatherland Liberation War was at its height and gave precious instructions on collecting the historical documents, books and remains on a nationwide scale and putting them in order. And he took measures to collect national classics by dispatching the relevant officials to various parts of the country. As a result, the manual discovered in the area of Phyongan Province in 1952 was donated to the then National Central Library. When the feature film "Pyongyang Nalpharam" was produced, Chairman Kim Jong Il gave an instruction on collecting national classics at home and abroad and storing them at the Grand People's Study House. "Mu Ye Do Bo Tong Ji" is of weighty significance in studying the root and history of Taekwon-Do and further developing the traditional martial arts created by the Korean nation. |
