High-yielding Fruit Species Newly Bred in DPRK
Pyongyang, September 29 (KCNA) -- Agriculturists in the DPRK have bred 20-odd high-yielding fruit species suitable to the country's climatic and soil conditions, which were recently registered in the list of national variety.

In this regard, Kye Ryong Gil, head of the Institute of Pomiculture under the Academy of Agricultural Science, told KCNA:

The new fruit species include apple, pear, peach, jujube and other two kinds of fruits.

"Sukchon Apple No. 10" has strong resistance to diseases and its taste and color are much better than the previous species.

"Plum Peach No. 5", which has no fuzz and stands the cold, and other 10-odd species of peach are short in growing period and high in the yield.

Those new fruit species can be cultivated even in northern highlands including Samjiyon City of Ryanggang Province, thus opening a bright prospect to spread fruit trees throughout the country.

There are also "Sukchon Pear No. 7" and "Sukchon Jujube No.3".

The agriculturists are now concentrating efforts on the research for fruit species with no alternate bearing and highly resistant to drought and humidity.
