Cold-resistant Fruit Species Bred in DPRK
Pyongyang, October 6 (KCNA) -- Scientists in Ryanggang Province of the DPRK succeeded in breeding new species of fruit trees like apple and plum suitable to northern highland.

As the province is latitudinally situated in an alpine region, it is not suitable to fruit cultivation. Anyhow, those scientists had made steady researches to breed high-yielding and cold-resistant fruit trees suitable to northern highland.

The new species of fruit trees have been widely cultivated in many areas of the province. In particular, apple trees planted in Samjiyon area came to bear fruits.

Scientists are now striving to expand the number of fruit species suitable to northern highland.
